Local Heritage Initiative ProjectIn 2001 the Friends of Hartshill Park were successful in their application for a Local Heritage Initiative (LHI) grant of £10,100. The project which is scheduled to be completed over 2 years, aims to improve the natural and historical heritage of the site, improve habitats and the environment within the park and to increase the educational use of the park, to name but a few. The Friends have received guidance for each project through their regular liaisons with Stoke-on-Trent City Councils Environment Team. STCC have helped the Friends to develop close links with local Schools and to get the pupils involved in both project designs and habitat creation. The LHI project has a completion date of January 2004 and has so far enabled the Friends to: produce two guided walk leaflets, trained them to design this web page, install 3 green oak interpretive benches, to design and install 4 interpretative panels and notice boards, undertake habitat management training, hold guided heritage walks, undertake pond and woodland improvement and to hold a celebration event in the park. These examples are not a comprehensive list but give an insight into the many different projects completed in Hartshill Park so far. Local Heritage Initiative web site.
